The traditional village of Panagia is the most popular mountain village, located on the eastern side of the island, 8 km from Limenas. It is lively throughout the year because around 900 people live here, and in the summer season the local population is engages in tourism. In addition to hotels and rooms for rent, there are taverns famous for their lamb and kid, several souvenir shops, shops with traditional products, coffee bars and other tourist attractions. As the local population lives here, there is a bakery, butchers, and pharmacy. The village has been inhabited for more than 300 years. The streets are stone and narrow with old stone houses covered with stone tiles. A typical mountain Macedonian village that will not leave any visitor indifferent. There are several fountains with cold spring water and you can hear the water bubbling in all directions. The “Fountain of love” with the “Bridge of love” in one square is especially famous. Other attractions include the old mill for the production of olive oil, the church dedicated to the Virgin Mary built in 1832, and a wonderful view of the Golden Beach bay. A special day for Panagia is the 15th of August when Panagia (Virgin Mary) is celebrated when the streets are filled with local products and festivities. Panagia captivates with its beauty and leaves no one indifferent. No matter what time of day you come here, you can have a great time. Thick shade and slightly fresher air than on the coast can be pleasant on hot summer days. Dinner or drinks in taverns or cafes with a view of the sea is a special experience. The main road passes through the center of the village and you can park your vehicle at the widenings at the entrance to the village on the main road.
